Singer Hints and Tips

  • Before Club night practise your 1st line of each song, so you are very familiar with how it sounds. Try memorising the first few words and intervals, so you can sing them in your head or to other people.

  • At Club - When you come up to sing announce your song number/song clearly to all the band.

  • Set your music and gear up - ask for help if you need it.

  • Go over to the Band (e.g. guitars and/or drummer) and demonstrate your rhythm to them and wait for them to play some of this back to you.

  • Once you start your song, if you need to STOP and reset it, that is OK. Just turn around and connect with them. You may choose to continue on rather than stop; this is your choice, but the band are happy to help, especially if it is a new song.

  • Music sheets - please have  4 copies of your chord sheets - A4 typed sheets that are clear and easy to read. 1.5 or Doublespacing with chords and words in right places. The size of text and chords should be no smaller than 14pt, the larger the better as this helps the band to read them  when sharing music.

  • For smooth transition between singers, please be ready and sit by the compere, when your turn is up.

  • Have your music in plastic or cardboard folders.

  • Please limit your introductions.

  • If there are large numbers of singers, the MC will announce a reduction of songs to be sung; this is so everyone gets to sing.

  • Unexpected guests - please allow the committee to offer  extended “spots” to guests; it is part of our welcome gesture to them.
